குழந்தைகளின் கண் இமைகளில் காஜல் எனப்படும் 'மை' வைப்பது ஆபத்தான பழக்கம்.
# எதனால் குழந்தைகளுக்கு கண்ணில் மை வைக்கிறார்கள் ?
குழந்தைக்கு திருஷ்டி பட்டுவிட கூடாது, குழந்தை அழகாக தோற்றம் அளிக்க வேண்டும்,உறவினர்கள் மற்றும் நண்பர்களின் அறிவுரை, கண்பார்வை அதிகரிக்கும் வேண்டும், கண்ணுக்கு குளிர்ச்சி தரும் போன்ற தவறான எண்ணங்களால் குழந்தைகளுக்கு கண்ணில் மை வைத்து விடுகிறார்கள்.
# கண் மை வைப்பதால் குழந்தைகளுக்கு எற்படும் பாதிப்புகள் என்ன ?
1) கண் மையில் அதிகளவு lead உள்ளது. இதனால் ரத்தத்தில் lead கலந்து, குழந்தைக்கு மூளைபாதிப்பு மற்றும் ரத்தசோகை நோய் ஏற்படும் வாய்ப்பு அதிகம்.
2) கண் மை வைப்பதால், குழந்தையின் கண்களில் தொற்று நோய், அலர்ஜி, வலி மற்றும் அரிப்பு ஏற்படும் வாய்ப்பு அதிகம். மை வைக்கும் பொழுது விரல் நகங்களால் கண்ணில் கீறல் ஏற்படும் பாதிப்பும் உள்ளது.
# கண் 'மை'யை உபயோகிக்க FDA எனப்படும் Food and Drug Administration இதுவரை அனுமதி கொடுக்கவில்லை.
# குழந்தைகளுக்கு கண்களில் மை வைப்பதை தவிர்க்க வேண்டும்.

# Most commercially produced ‘kajal’ contain high levels of lead.
# Studies have revealed that ‘Kajal’ comprises of galena (PbS), minium (Pb3O4), amorphous carbon, magnetite (Fe3O4), and zincite (ZnO).
# Prolonged application may cause excessive lead storage in the body, affecting the brain and bone marrow, causing convulsions and anemia.
# Dirty fingers, sharp and uneven fingernails of the caregivers are potentially harmful to the child’s eyes.
# US FDA does not permit its use in a cosmetic or in any other FDA-regulated product.
